You know how the brain has receptors that accommodate opiates, just by accident? The receptors were nto designed for opiates, but opiates fit into dopamine receptors, which is an accidental coincidence.

Well, in our evolution we may have evolved brain functions which, by accident, support spiritual and religious beliefs, but were evolved for some other purpose. It may be a hold over from way back in our evolution, which at the time was somehow advantageous.

As an example, there is the theory that way back in our evolution, when our ancestors were animals that reproduced rather quickly, as in more than once a year, when food was short the animals experienced stress, which caused a meta-genetic switch to make offspring homosexual, to reduce the reproduction rate and ensure survival by not over producing beyond the food supply. Now fast forward a few million years to modern humans, who still when the woman is stressed during pregnancy are more likely to have gay children. It is basically an evolutionary hold over, which was at one time advantageous for species survival.

Anyway, my point is that even if there is a part of the brain that is receptive to spirituality and/or religion, that doesn't really prove that it was developed for the purposes of spiritually in the first place or that that is it's actual function. It is just as likely to be an accident or an evolutionary hold over.

Wow, interesting point sny!

Lets be honest, they don't truly know what part of the brain is for religion or spirituality.

The region of the brain responsible for religion is the gullibility circuits, and for spirituality it is the nonsense circuits.
