1st, homosexualis are less likely to be pedophiles than heterosexuals. 2nd, there were many girls raped by priests, I personally know someone. 3rd, what this article fails to address is that the church took no action to stop abuse when discovered aside from moving priests to other parishes where they committed crimes again.
This article seems to be trying to reduce the severity by pointing out other, similar, scandals. A classic way of negating an evil, "well, they did it too."
Yes, there have been other scandals, like the boy scouts, and that one is currently being litigated (personally, I believe the Mormons should be held partially responsible as they financed much of the boy scouts through that time).
And, yes, the catholics committed other horrible crimes to children, in multiple countries, in their orphanages or work houses.
That all said, the biggest crime the church committed was hiding the crimes and allowing more to occur.
