GMO Free USA stated in 2016 that "The New York Times finally gets something right about GMOs."

Has anything changed?
The increase in yields was predicated on an increased use of pesticides and herbicides. Also, the 'green revolution' has shown to cause more harm than good and is also a failure. Again, the comment, "No matter what your cause it is a lost cause unless we deal with overpopulation."
"increase in yields was predicated on an increased use of pesticides" that is as useful as Americans saying that keeping the US price of petrol in the car is justification for causing the deaths of millions throughout the world.
If the billions spent on GMOs had been spent on reversing the desertification & redistribution of food in the world there probably would be even greater food surpluses than already occurs & no deaths from famine. That however results in benefits for all not just avaricious shareholders.
@FrayedBear The gas analogy makes absolutely no sense to me. Obviously the thinking is spending money on redistribution or supply chain would have alleviated mass starvation. What is not taken into account is the simple fact that the demand has and continues to outstrip the supply. We live on a finite planet with finite resources. Also, desertification is a part of the climate change which is caused by human numbers and activities. Anything else is just plain denial.
@JackPedigo Please go and read some of the articles in the following link:
I also believe it was part of the way to increase the cost of seeds. Some Canadian farmers were sued by Monsanto over the cross pollination with the seeds they would save from their crops and the Roundup Ready seed that was planted in near by fields. The Roundup Ready corn, soy, alfalfa, beets, etc. created super weeds that Roundup on long kills.

Of course, create a monopoly and create a bigger profit margin. Years ago a group of us with an amateur orchardist group went to N. Italy to see how that country managed fruit production. Being amateur we advocated strictly organic methods. We were invited to hear a talk given by several scientists in Padua (one thing pushed by numerous universities in Europe was to have ag. courses in English). They went on and on about how much work they had done to create pesticides and herbicides and were upset that the local townspeople did not appreciate or use their advice.
Also, pay no attention the that man behind the curtain above.
Bastards.
I knew it, the industry lobbied our legislators at every state and federal levels and ran campaign ads to brainwash and convince us that they were perfectly safe including GMO meats. Now all carrots, bananas, apples and other fruits are bigger and of the same big size. It is going to be decades from now when scientists will tell us what we have done to ourselves.
As the movie "The Graduate" mentioned "plastics" was the magic word in the 1970s and it was a miracle in every household and business replacing aluminum and metals. Now the scientists have told us it is bad for us and to retire all plastics from our lives. Who knows they maybe hiding that plastics has been causing cancers all along.
Milk, White Meat, Beef, Plastics... all industry councils have mastered the art of well how to get around criticisms and legislations to stop all hurdles in their ways an sell to a large consumer class with impunity. What's more Republicans want to get rid of the plaintiff lawyers who sue big companies on behalf aggrieved common man consumers. It is asking for common man votes but protecting big businesses.
Proving illegitimacy may be difficult.
