Some Idaho Democrats register as Republicans to combat far right.
This only works for states where you can't vote outside of what you're registered as. I'm a registered independent, and where I live I can vote Democrat or Republican locally and nationally.
We once had a county councilman do that for a conservative area. He learned how to play the tricks to getting re-elected (the average voter is a nitwit) and had his seat for 10 years. He was also the creator for the regions growth management plan which the wealthy people in that part of the state hated.
I've long time felt it is marginally more effective to vote against things/people than voting for them (for everything that's worth). I've been registered Republican for many years though I seldom vote that way especially in the final.
I'm thinking about holding my nose and doing it.
