Pastor calls for killing gays and atheists. Evicted today.

For three years, my friend Bruce, a psychologist, has been picketing Stedfast Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas on Sundays. At first Bruce carried signs and protested alone. Bruce argues with pastor Donnie Romero who cannot refute Bruce's logic. Bruce has been blocked from commenting on their Youtube and church channels.

An atheist, Bruce is a former Baptist minister. He's a wonderful person. Stedfast Baptist Church covered large picture windows so members cannot see picketers.

“I’m going to explain to you why God wants these people to be put to death,” Romero declared during a sermon in December. “The word of God is very clear that God is against the sodomites, that they’re filthy, and it says they’re an abomination to God.”

Romero preaches killing atheists and gay people.

A clip from Romero’s sermon, posted on YouTube by Right Wing Watch, has been viewed more than 28,000 times. It also helped land Romero’s Fort Worth church on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s annual list of active anti-LGBT hate groups.

“Their gay-bashing is intense,” said Heidi Beirich, director of SPLC’s Intelligence Project. “Stedfast Baptist Church is very crude in its hatred. That’s not a complicated thing to explain why we put them on the hate list.” Romero didn’t return a phone call seeking comment.

Shooting off confetti

"We convinced the church's landlord to evict them," Bruce said today. "The landlord does not want the liability. Pastor Romero is a sociopath."

"The landlord offered Stedfast Baptist Church $50,000 to leave before their lease is up. Pastor Romero refused and took the landlord to court. Stedfast Church lost the trial and now owes $200,000 in attorney fees and fines."

Stedfast Baptist Church must move out today. Bruce, atheists and gay groups gathered in celebration, shooting off confetti when their Sunday service got out.

Teaching kids to hate

Bruce said the church has about a hundred members. Sixty adults and forty kids. Romero claims he has thousands of members.

"The saddest thing is the parents are teaching their children to hate people who are different," Bruce said.

Perhaps if these extreme nutty people and groups were simply ignored they would remain small and impotent. Giving them attention may actually be counterproductive.

This is bullshit. When assholes are ignored, they do a bunch of harm because nobody is watching.

And then it's too late.

Enjoy your nap.

Glad to hear they were evicted, and I would be even happier to hear Romero is sent to prison.

The open hatred that has been exposed and enabled by Trump and the GOP will only get more focused between now and 2024. It is not just the LGBTQ the Right is going after...it is total control over American lives...everything from Sexual orientation, to Abortion, to Education, to Race and anything these illiterate imbeciles deem "ungodly". The Churches are their Stage. The Religious Right are their audience and Political Office is their goal. This isn't just about some nutcase radical preacher...this is about the ENDGAME. His "Death threats" need to be leveraged against him AND the GOP's embrace of this kind of personality SPOTLIGHTED. Against the backdrop of what our Founding Fathers had hoped to create, and against the backdrop of World History...people like this can be exposed for what they REALLY are. This is "The Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism" all over again. George Santayana was 100% correct.

This might not be all good. As @Paracosm noted they have a web presence and if they move underground they will be harder to watch.

I feel glad the church is saddled with $200,000 in debt after the trial.

@LiterateHiker The debt is a good thing, my concern is that driving the vermin underground will make it more difficult to track any stupidity they may plan in the future.

@LiterateHiker It also makes it more difficult to make sure that the children are ok.

Maybe people should march in front of Romero's house with signs saying HE should be put to death. I'm sure he would be extremely upset but would very likely fail to see the irony of his own outrage.
