I survived a tornado in Minnesota but it was at night, so I only heard it and felt it. The sound was like a freight train combined with a jet plane taking off.

I have seen exactly one verified funnel in my life. It was many miles away and heading roughly due east while I was heading southeast, and that's as close as I ever want to get. I want nothing to do with a storm that might be so powerful it can scour the pavement off a road.
