Because when the cops show up the very first thing they will do is shoot dead Anyone with a gun, or will you be wearing a "i'm the good guy" t-shirt & will they read it...

Gun fights typically last less than a minute. The guns would be down by the time the police showed up.
Alabama police are trained on active shooter situations with law abiding citizens shooting back too.
