Actually the London Company sent 104 men to settle Jamestown on a business/commercial venture about 20 years before the Pilgrims. Jamestown was settled in the spring of 1607 and religion was not it’s purpose. Its main interest was finding gold and other minerals and perhaps a shortcut to India and the Middle East.
