Vandana Shiva and the Seeds of the Sri Lankan Farming Disaster
The point and the story itself is unclear. Is the tragedy in Sri Lanka that organic foods cost more? Was there a crop “failure”? HOW did a whole country’s crops fail? Lack of water? Or improper organic farming techniques? This is not a reliable report, but claims there is a “dark side” to organic farming. There is no reason organic produce should be substantially more expensive than what is now called “industrial agriculture”, because the yield of an organically grown crop is usually not even 20% less. This is more likely a “farmer failure” than a crop failure. [news.berkeley.edu]
