From 1928, Bulldoze Blues by Henry Thomas. Canned Heat fans will recognize this slightly changed.

Wow! Not changed much. I think the wind instrument in this recording sounds like an ocarina, or "sweet potato".

I heard this today on the radio. He played the quills, a pan pipe like instrument made and played by American slaves.

Thanks. I'll look this up. Do you know if Canned Heat credited "Goin' Up the Country" to Henry Thomas? If not, it's strsight up plagiarism.
