I had thought of water being used to lift the stones but could not understand how limestone would not fall apart being submerged in water. However, this video explains how water chambers could have lifted the stones. The limestone being soft in water made it easier to shape to perfection.

Internal tunnels were used apparently. You can see the faint position of these on the outside under certain light conditions.

The Pyramids are astounding. No hyperbole.

Limestone is formed from deposits laid down in a marine environment, so I don't think a bit of water is going to have much effect on it.
