Very basically the idea the idea of stoicism is that for best results in life accept conditions as they are and not buy into internal emotional responses. A Buddhist response would be to observe but not engage. The are a few other teneOne problem that arises with stoicism is that in its classical context it suggests that it is not possible to change events, determinism, but you can change yourself. This, however seems to conflict with the idea of determinism. The most practical application is to accept what you cannot change. Its summed up by the good old Australian saying "She'll be alright, mate. Have a beer"

What about Stocism? It was one of the four major schools of antiquity--along with Platonism, Aristotelianism, and Epicurianism. The book of Acts records how Paul met and debated them (and other philosophers) at Mars Hill.

Check out Massimo Pigliucci [en.m.wikipedia.org]

@TheMiddleWay I came across Massimo by pure happenstance... I was checking prominent Liberians ... Just because I was plying with words: Libertarian Libarian librarian and Pigliucci's name popped up.
I watched him debating Michael Shermer ...
Many years ago I lost some atheist friend because I said: If science gets elevated beyond reason it because a doctrine that is just a dangerous as religious fundamentalisms.
Moral values cannot be derived from science.
