???Sigh.
My kids showed up today for an ‘intervention’. My going to the ER last weekend, then being admitted, was apparently too much. Too much what, I’m not sure.
My son tells me I’m depressed and that’s why I vomit and stay in bed all day.
My daughter thinks I caused the diabetes-and thus, gastroparesis-by my ‘bad diet’, and the RIGHT diet will cure me.
I did try to set them straight, asked them to Google. It’s so frustrating to have very healthy people tell me if I’m sick, why, and how to fix it.
I'm sorry you're dealing with that and you aren't alone. My son understands but my daughter is very angry with me for being sick. Not even taking her with me to medical appointments is helpful. She needs to be in denial. I try to avoid that kind of negativity and stick with people who are kind and understanding.
Nothing more frustrating than people telling you what you should and should not be doing or eating. Only a medical proffesional can offer such advice. When I tell people about my colitis, and I say the diet I am on is to keep symptoms to an absolute minimum, you hear people all the time say 'oh you should try this diet or that diet'. People always mean well, but so many times people don't recognise that they are not experts in something
Yup. When I thanked my daughter kindly but said no to her Paleo diet plan...it was like the apocalypse. Angry is not the word.
Argh.
What diet are you on?
The gastroparesis diet: low fat, low fiber. If I vomit, I do clear liquids, slowly progressing up to solid food. If I vomit again, I go back to clear. I’ve had over a month of just liquids, before the hospital.
My daughter thinks gluten free will bring world peace...and a few years ago, presented her plan to replace all my meds with the Paleo diet. I’m sorry, but ?. If it works for her: that’s great. I want them to ask how I feel though, not TELL me. I am the only one who knows.
@CarolinaGirl60 if this is the diet your doctor put you on then stay on it. But if it is not working you should try other things with your doctor in the know.
Ask them to go to one of your doctor appointments. It was out of love, they love you and fear for your health.
I had asked. They did not go nor did either of them come to the hospital during my recent admission. Can’t help folks who won’t hear or get facts.
@CarolinaGirl60 then you can safely ignore them.
im guessing they love you and are worried hopefully they listened to what you said and took on board your frustrations
I hope so. I have them info and I hope they read it. I know it’s hard for healthy people to understand chronic illness.
