If you enjoy humor and Christian Satire "Lamb" by Christopher Moore is a great choice. I personally prefer his book "A dirty job" but this one is a close second.

I live about 2 blocks from one of the largest independent book stores in the US. In addition to all the newest reads they also have 5 floors of used books. In the evening I walk there and pull a book off the shelf and go back into the stacks to read....

Just Finished "Flight Behavior" by Barbara Kingsolver. Small town meets the scientific community. I really enjoyed it. I'd put it as one of her more enjoyable books.
