Explain to her that what you are doing guys the kitty food.
As I always say "give love to get love" and tell them when you think they are not returning it.
One of the most incredible examples was a cat that I only looked after for 1 week. He went into hiding to start with for 2 days but once enticed out guarded me at night like a Queen's guard & was constantly happy to be with me during the day. After his owners returned & I had left he apparently was looking all over for me.
