That's true!
I helped at the feline sanctuary here for about a year until my back started bothering me ( my job was cleaning to 30+ litter boxes), but I always felt so sorry for the older cats that were usually there because their owner died or had to move, etc. They just stayed in a corner away from the other cats. They were rarely adopted.

Yeah, I hate that. mixed feelings, really. I'm relieved that the kitties have a place to be safe and live out their lives but it's so sad that they go from being a companion pet to being just another cat in a big group. This shelter is a no-kill but it's also private so they can refuse to take pets, and honestly I have mixed feelings about that too. Nothing in animal rescue is perfect.
@SkagwayKim : That's one reason I adopted my last cat, Leo, from a PetSmart store ..he was est. at 5 years (almost 8 now) and after almost 3 weeks he was still there in a cage. I don't think anyone wanted him. If a cat can show gratitude Leo certainly does, he follows him everywhere in the house, right now he's looking over my shoulder while I type this.
@Ray13 2 of my cats came from the shelter where I'm volunteering as a bonded pair. 1 of them had been adopted twice and returned. I can guess it's because he missed his brother (not littermates, just bffs) so he was alternating between hiding and yowling. But they're happy together now.
So cute! Reminds me of a neighbor cat from somewhere I used to live.

We found her on the side of the road last December and think she had been hit by a car. She's recovered nicely and adds chaos to the household.
