I have Long Term Care Insurance as an Ex Federal worker.
I will be acquiring an end of life directive & living will. They are not a legal document but do carry influence should anyone challenge my wishes.

I think they ARE legal documents if you do them right... aren't they? Why do you think not?

One hears often about the end of life fights. The family wishes to over ride the living will. States refuse to honor it. It does carry weight with doctors & families who respect the wishes. Those that do not end up in court.

@Countrywoman My dad had a living will with "DNR" Do Not Resuscitate instructions. We had several events (at age 96) where it came into play and all the professionals honored it without question. He eventually passed quietly in his sleep... the way we'd all like to go. The problem comes with other family members who aren't in agreement and won't honor the person's very own written wishes. It can cause quite a fuss with the poor medical people caught in the middle while an emotional family member makes a scene. It has to be carefully worked-out ahead with notarized copies of the DNR paper on the person at all times, in the car, with the caregivers, on the refrigerator, and on the front door!
