Could someone possibly assist in helping me identify this rose? The story is that the previous owner of the home brought/smuggled clippings somehow from a visit to the Normandy coast. I'm not sure the story is reliable at all, but the purple blooms have a lovely fragrance! Just starting to bloom here in Western PA.

Not Rosa rugosa?

I would agree with the Rosa gallica suggestion. It was an early development from the wild rose.

Beautiful Terrian Plant. I have made a search with Plantsnap, a mobile app for plant identification. The most probable species is the French Rose, Rosa gallica, or a hybrid in the Gallica group. All fragrant roses, cultivated and wild, can be used for food and medicinal use. "The main point is that the petals suitable for medicinal purposes must yield a deep rose-coloured and somewhat astringent and fragrant infusion when boiling water is poured upon them." - [botanical.com] The rose tea has minor side effects, so caution is necessary. Recorded side effects go from "nausea, stomach cramps, and diarrhea to fatigue and headache." - [topstretch.com] There are "more than 300 active compounds present in roses, of which only about 100 have been identified." - [jackcollier7.com] See also: [naturalmedicinalherbs.net]

I can tell you that the leaves and what I can see of the bloom, look very much like an old fashioned rose (that's all I know to call it) that grows by my fence. It is a very dense bush, very thorny and the blooms are paler pink than these but an old or wild type rose bloom. That is my non-horticulturist take on it. There are some experts here who will probably know a lot about it.

Second rose kind of calls to mind the Tudor rose .

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
