I was homeschooled through the bulk of my pre-college education. Only so much you can draw out "had to go 12 steps, up stairs both ways, even when there was two feet of snow outside!"

My father showed me his route to school in Northernish Saskatchewan. It was kind of like this...

Walking to school was fun unless some bullies blocked your way. Usually we'd stop to explore something and get home very late. There was no such thing as a school bus and mothers only picked up their kids if they had more than three or four miles to walk. There was a reservoir nearby with lots of frogs, a bar where you could buy a hamburger for a buck and play on their shuffelboard game. It was good times.

I'm not tall now, at 5'6", but I actually had a growth spurt in my teens. As a youngster bullies were always a potential...started carrying a roll of dimes, then nickels in my pocket, & it wasn't for bribes!

But seriously, my kids have no idea!

You tell them the same stories?

@phxbillcee I had to go through a valley so it really was up hill both ways, and snow, wind or ran I walked it... also it was a tough New York neighborhood and I had to navigate a gauntlet of muggers. So he’ll yea.

@ArdentAtheist exactly...and the peasants doubt us...but sledding was fun...???

@ArdentAtheist were the Vikings there?

@TheGreatShadow I am a Viking

@ArdentAtheist if you steal, may you steal a woman's heart. If you cheat, my you cheat death. If you fight, may you fight for a brother. If you drink, may you drink with me.
