That's the life of most insects; their adult stages are very short; they mate, lay eggs, and die.
The MayFly is another famous one; the adult stage emerges from its' Chrysalis-
spends 8 hours mating. a few hours egg-laying (400 to 3000)...and then dies in less than 24 hours.
