Yep, you're right. Not the most socially accepted norm. Especially when there are alternatives.
I guess we need to know what kind of store this is, or even if it is a store.
@Mofferatu I don't use contactless to be fair I have seen the cracking softs for it and it is scary !! all you need is an NFC enabled Android with a Non stock ROM install to customise. No prior tech knowledge really ... scary .. Still I will try not to use anything but my hands and feet still lol !! lol @ "if it is a store" - kinda opens up a vast cornucopia of possibility.
