Do you think a high powered bb/pellet gun/rifle should be on the same restrictions as a firearm? Your modern BB guns probably won't break the skin if pressed against you, and fired. I swear you need a stop watch to see how long it takes to shoot 100 feet. However, CO2 powered bb/pellet are different. I had one when I was about 10. Some high powered bb/pelet will trabel at 700-800 FPS. Your standard 22 LR will travel around 1200 FPS. The speed of sound is about 1100. CO2 powered guns can easily kill at short range. You don't have to go to a FFL to get one. You can buy one on Amazon, and have it shipped to your house. Plus since they are basically silent (look up crack bang) no one will hear it. I heard a rumor that with the advent of powder rifles crossbows were outlawed in places. They were silent.

In short, my answer to your question would be no, we the citizens already face enough restrictions on things in daily life. Besides, regulating/outlawing certain objects never made them disappear, people will get ahold of them regardless of any restrictions. Not sure if this is true or not, but supposedly New Jersey classifies air powered weapons/crossbows/slingshots as firearms, as absurd as that is, apparently NJ lawmakers don't know why regular guns are called firearms (key word in there fire). While the muzzle velocity of modern airguns is considerable, the type of ammunition used is a big factor on how lethal said airgun is, and pellets (assuming they are not wadcutters) do far more damage than BB's do. I've got some mad lethal pellets in my inventory, and airguns that get up to 1,400 fps. I'd talk about airguns in the group I host, but I get the feeling not many in that group would be interested though.

I was really looking for what the gun restriction people were saying, But I'm only getting vague answers.
This topic is on the fence for me. I know some states are very strict about just about anything. There are checkpoints at the california/nevada border that want to confiscate fruit.
I did say firearm specifically, however IIRC the ATF definition is something like "something that fires a projectile with an explosive charge", or something like that.

This should be self evident. We all know there are some who try (and often succeed) in making it more complex than it should be.
