The News... Always the News...
So much for being armed as a way of protection. What did the homeowner expect after his alarm went off?
Years ago I was moving into my new house. I was bringing boxes and then got a call that I had to report for a temp position. I was in a hurry but discovered my partner had locked the screen door for which there was no key so I had to cut the screen to get in. I was in a rush and threw the boxes into the house and left. When I got to the job site I was told it was a mistake and I wasn't needed so I returned home to find a couple of cops at the side of the house with guns drawn. Apparently a neighbor had heard the noises (my tossing the boxes) and thought there was an intruder and called the cops. Upon arriving they saw the cut screen and assumed the worse. I asked what was going on and the cops said there was an intruder. They explained what was going on and and I explained what had happened. They still cautiously approached and saw I was right. I actually thanked the neighbor for watching out in my absence. I would think this is how it should be done.
