We had a very interesting meeting last night facilitated by 2 women from Seattle with the group Grandmothers against gun violence. 4 redneck looking characters stopped by late and one sat at our table. We all discussed our association with guns. This guy said his family was poor and they hunted to augment their food and he is still a hunter and is wife carries a handgun when going on the mainland (we have very little crime here). His hands was filthy and he said they came late because their car broke down and he had to crawl underneath to fix it. The theme of the meeting was civility and everyone had good, civil and meaningful discussions. One guy, next to me said he has been on Lopez for 10 years (he moved from NM and said the weather here was much better). He was very open but was the biggest gun person in our group. He even had some special 22 gauge bullets with him. He was not a supporter of the NRA. It turned out to be a very enlightening discussion.
