Should be blocked
Car maker blamed because demented driver goes through a crowded mall killing 6
Dryer manufacturer blamed when stupid woman kills cat by drying it in tumble dryer
Knife maker blamed when kid stabs classmates

where do you stop

The problem is not the manufacturer - it is the law that allows everyone, even psychopaths,to own them

Your argument isn't analogous to the article. If you read it, you'd know that they weren't saying all firearms are bad. To stick with your cars comparison, it would be that after 10s of incidents of Chevy Malibu's being driven through malls, with the purpose of killing as many as possible, families of the deceased, in one incident, decided to take Chevy to court over how the car was being promoted. If the manufacturer has a good case, let them present it and demonstrate that they aren't part of a problem.

@chalupacabre You are saying the gun makers promote that particular gun as suitable for a mass shooting, while makers of similar guns do not

@ShadowAmicus or I might be saying you didn't read the article and are trolling for an argument. THIS PARTICULAR GUN MAKER IS BEING TAKEN TO COURT OVER HOW THEY MARKETED THIS PARTICULAR WEAPON.

@chalupacabre Link just goes to Reyters general page ... only seen advert above ....
Yo be clear - I personally think assault rifles are brilliant at clearing a room full of people you want dead and a great tool for combat, but they have no place in civilian life and I despair of a society so stupid as to place them in the hands of civilians ...I do not believe the manufacturer should be held responsible for angry or mentally ill purchasers

@ShadowAmicus Why you want to clear a room full of people you want dead? Why a manufacturer makes a weapon that can not sell? I recognize laws has to be changed... I recognize also that gun makers need to be restricted of what product they can develop for "hunting", "practice shooting", "self defense". The product they are producing is killing us. Life is not a video game anymore.

@GipsyOfNewSpain You have clearly not served with an army - there are times you need to kill quickly and efficiently .... but making such weapons are available in civilian situations is stupidity.
Life has never been a vidro game - I think part of the problem is we are too civilised, too separated from real death and too familiar with pretence killings in video games

@ShadowAmicus... I surely has not served with an army... but I am a 20 year Navy Veteran. I was a member of the Defense Force on my Boat. I live in a house with guns. I will gladly Melt each of them to save a single life and I look forward when there will be not a single gun in Civilians hands in America. My son is an USAF Vet that volunteered for a tour in Afghanistan . My Kid sister also is a 23 year Veteran of the USAF. I play acted with guns since childhood before video games. I was an adult when video games became the norm in different platforms and played them but I live in real life no games. People are dying in America for what? a Stupid amendment written in the 18th Century. This is the 21st Century. We no longer in America are Fearing the British are coming back to restore the 13 Colonies. People are dying so a few can earn a profit off fear. They can manufacture something else. Do not have to be guns. I don't have a Beef with you Matey... I will at this moment step back while you remove the foot off your mouth.

@GipsyOfNewSpain I am largely in agreement with you - I would like to see an end to the whole armaments industry, not just in America, but across the world ... if the brains and financial resources poured into armaments development and manufacture were harnessed to something useful - better food production, medicine, housing, water provision, etc the world would be a better place.
The video games really refers mainly to the young (under 25) who seem to dominate the mass shootings perpetrators - had they seen real death from accidents, shootings, etc, they may be less inclined to believe the way impersonal simplistic way violent death is treated in video games

@ShadowAmicus I have to agree... I used to play those video games, I can't stomach them now... my son a USAF veteran still play those games and is a gun owner and I always, always make the point to him to talk to me if he ever going that path... I am happy and blessed I guess that he is successful and without those dark spaces some of today's youth have. I am 65... it was such a different world me growing up, my world at my youth... and the manufacture of weapons that do a terrible damage in the hands of individuals.... and for what? The excuse of hunting... marksmanship... hell no it is not worth it. Those guns are made to simply kill people and they are being sold to anyone for any reason. Freedom has gotten to the point of madness because of a National Rifle Association serving a better small sector of the population. The peace and joy of children is more important and today's youth... today's young do not enjoy that liberty and freedom I experienced. It is a Sad World... we can't smile like we used to because it is in the back of our minds people are dying for no reason other than people to had the money to buy the power of such weapons... We are the only Country in the World this madness is happening and Government continue to allow the sale and the manufacture. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and nothing like that ever happened in my island and believe me... there are enough weapons there to fuel a revolution but killing the innocent is just sick, mankind is flunking the test, we can not police ourselves. The hate, the racism to the point of going out and shoot people is real madness.

@SeaGreenEyez I totally agree - but chasing the manufacturers is the wrong direction You will not stop ownership and use of guns by fighting individual manufacturers - this action is ill conceived, may put a financial penalty on one manufacturer but will have zero effect on gun ownership

If you want to end gun violence there needs to be a logical, simple way to dramatically reduce mass ownership

  1. Assault rifles have no place in civilian life - make them and bump stocks illegal to own
  2. put an ever increasing tax on ammunition - make it expensive, then very expensive
  3. tax guns in same way, particularly heavy calibres that cause greater injury
4.make gun licences expensive then very expensive - one licence per individual gun, not for multiple ownership
5.make routine regular health checks, particularly mental health, a pre-requisite for ownership
  4. punitive jail sentences for illegal gun ownership

I have a greater appreciation of the effect of gunshot wounds than most people. I would like to see the armaments industry around the world completely dismantled..... but adopt a logical practical strategy

The merchants of death don't want to be held accountable for their product or how they market that product. I sure hope the Sandy Hook parents win this one.
