Give a person a gun and they will use it for any reason, any.

That's some crazy stuff...

Most firearm owners are a lot more responsible. I was only tempted to draw a firearm twice in my almost 36 years of life (I've been trained since I was 3 - no joke). First time someone assaulted me resulting in two broken eye sockets, and a fractured skull. The rifle was too close to him where he could have grabbed the barrel, and took it. Plus there was another guy that could have gotten hit, and the bullet could have traveled into the neighbours house. Second time someone broke into my house. He was a fraction of a second of being shot. He is a friend of mine that thought something was wrong because I didn't answer his calls. He didn't know I was on a night schedule. He came into my bedroom, saw I went to grab a pistol, then hands in the air saying who he was.

He should have knocked .

@Besalbub He did apologize several times. I'm actually happy that I had a friend that thought enough of me to check up on me. I was (and am) fine.

Unfortunately, most is not good enough. Truly responsible gun owners should understand and even promote heavy reegulations.

@JackPedigo I agree.

@JackPedigo What does “heavy regulation” include?

@yvilletom Reminds me of a phone call I got once. They wanted me to donate to ban "weapons of war". I asked what that meant. I was on the phone with 3 different people asking. None knew. Is a weapon of war a nuke, or a 1000 year old viking sword?

@yvilletom What does it usually include? Allowing only certain licensed and stable people to own a firearm. Regulating the type of firearms and ammo. I lived in Germany for 15 years. This is a culture with a history of hunting and guns. They have heavy regulations and yet many people do own guns (often it is the ammo that is more regulated than the guns). Hunters have to take a strict test and join a club. The guns are kept at the club under lock and key. Collectors own guns but the bullets are not easily available. Sane, responsible regulations are not that hard. What is hard is to get the gun addicts to understand the carnage that low regulated weapon ownership is doing to the country.

@JackPedigo I did a search on home invasion crimes in Germany and found only:
“Germany's knife-crime epidemic has continued nonstop into 2019. During the first 45 days of 2019, police reported more than 500 knife crimes — an average of 11 a day.”
Compared to gun crimes in America 11 a day is almost nothing, but when America may be #1 in violence and is #1 in use of illicit drugs, addressing symptoms rather than causes is certain to fail.

@yvilletom Thank you. The biggest issue of all is the Environmental one. Climate Change is an issue of a much bigger problem - us.
It seems when people want to talk about the environment the first thing they bring up is social, environmental justice. Again all about us.

@yvilletom Look at the UK. It is so hard to get a firearm there that most police officers don't have one! But per capita they have more violent crimes. A friend of mine lives in Canada. He got a 22 LR rifle. He said the tax alone was $800 USD. Here you can buy a cheap pistol new for $169.
