I have been listening to the audiobook "immortal life of Henrietta lacks". Medical research ethics are central to this book. What is the state of medical research with regard to ethics? How are the standards enforced?

That was a fascinating book! I would like to think that we (as a society) have learned a lot since her time, and ethics have improved...

Each field has its oversight organization. Sometimes it is through the University that they are associated with. Other times it is through peer reviewed periodicals. There are professional organizations that professionals are expected to be a part of and they have ethic standards. There are organizations like NIH that license and certify professionals. There are organizations (that is until Trump came along) like the Office of Science and Technology in Washington.
