Anyone care to try a different approach?
If willing, list what you "need" in order to survive in your own, imagine in the wilderness, on an island.
Amend your post over a week or two after reading what others may have suggested then in a few weeks we can add to our own original posts to make it what we "need" in order to survive in our current towns.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.A few years ago I made several survival kits that fit inside a 12 or 16 ounce plastic peanut butter jar with a screw on lid. I had foil, garbage bag, copper wire, broken hacksaw blade, matches, first aid, shoe laces, single edge razor blade, note pad/pencil and some other stuff that I can't remember. I would throw it in my little back pack when I did day hikes. Maybe one of them is still around and I can post a picture.

I have similar things in my car and in recent years added zip ties.
If it is the wilderness here, I don't need much; warm clothes, feral rod and an axe. I would be helpful to have a couple of hundred feet of fishing line and about a dozen hooks but, that is something I would need more in the winter than the summer when natural cordage can be made from spruce roots and bones or antlers can be found to make gouges. I have been out on survival trials many times, on the last one I did in the summer for 2 weeks I gained 2 pounds.

yes, I did my first survival test in this region in 1972, in recent years I teach about local foods, and yes, I can also gain weight while out here.
@Rugglesby You live in a very different environment, here after warm clothing number one is the ax. What is it there a knife?
@HeathenFarmer some people use a small hatchet, most use a machette/cane knife, I have one here that is very well weighted and can take down branches, small trees with a couple of swings, is light enough, hangs on a belt.
I don't have to imagine "on an island". Our island has a "resiliency" movement and we are always talking abut what we could do if we were cut off from the mainland. Water is a priority and many of us have rain harvesting systems with thousands of gallons. As a vegetarian I don't need a gun to hunt vegetables/fruits. Other issues are always discussed but new ideas are always welcomed.

I have an agreeable climate so shelter is minimal, safe water, fire, protection from biting insects and the sun, knowledge of local edible plants and how to catch some protein would be good. Some tools would make these things easier. Some containers to boil water. I will keep thinking.
