I am a committed Atheist since I was about 19. I think I may be different from many of the other Atheists in this group I am of a right wing persuasion and think Jeremy Corbin and Labour would be a disaster for the country. I am also a committed Brexiter. So if any of you lefties want to argue then lets get going,

I’d rather not, thanks all the same. Your use of the phrase ‘you lefties’, a right wing pejorative, tells me all I need to know. Arguing with you would be like arguing with a committed theist, and I gave that up years ago. And, yes; I’m happy to generalise about rightists. They’ve been doing that since before there were trees, so the hell with it.

I voted to remain. I an a Corbyn supporter. I think that the European Union is a bureaucratic conspiracy against so many poor countries. However, leaving the European Union will be bad for the UK. We are a large successful nation, and I am sure we will cope and survive the whole process. It remains, however, a self inflicted wound that came from a long standing civil, war inside the Conservative Party.

As I remember it, the promise was that if we left the EU we "could" control immigration; not "would".
As I remember it, the promise was that if we left the EU, we "could" spend another £360M on the NHS; not "would"
Any body who thinks that brexit will mean a reduction of the immigration numbers is living in a dream world . The immigration numbers will be decided by the rich and powerful as they always have. The numbers that they allow will be enough or more than enough to bring the general wage bill down. And remember that there are millions on the African continent who are much poorer than than the worse off Eastern Europeans. The ordinary citizens of this country will have no say in who comes here.
I heard people crying that they "wanted their country back". This country always belonged to the rich and powerful, not the ordinary people. Rest assured that the people who will own this country after brexit will still be the rich and powerful.

All atheist means is without a belief in god or gods, other than that you can believe whatever the fuck you like.
Non of my business.
However I hold some very right wing views and some very left wing views, quite a few centrist too I find the black and white thinking irksome and boring.
If people based their opinions on both pragmatism and compassion, rather than some preconceived ideas about what their stance should be based on spurious self identification, then maybe things would get a little better on the whole.

This is what gets me... you automatically assume that pro Europeans are left wing. This is why the more arrogant amongst us assume that Brexiteers jump at sound bites and slogans and eschew reason and logic. Your attitude seems to be on the face of it very xenophobic.

How has the influx of hard working EU immigrants negatively affected your life?

Can’t vote for either Labour or Tory, I live in Northern Ireland that strange place where the bible thumping DUP are currently propping up May. She is the “weak and wobbly “ not the “strong and stable “ leader (I use that word euphemistically) who presides over the most divided cabinet in my living memory and I am 73. The Labour party under Corbyn has lurched alarmingly to the left and alienated Jewish supporters. He has allowed kMomentum to obtain a stranglehold, edging more moderate members off Labour’s ruling bodies, Considering the complete shambles the Tories are in Labour should be miles ahead in the opinion polls....but it is not so. I say a pox on both their houses! As for Brexit, I believe history will prove it to be the single biggest blunder of the last fifty years!

The ordinary British citizen were very angry that their country was be swamped by millions (yes millions) of immigrants coming to the UK. That is the biggest reason they and me voted Brexit. If the politicians had got some kind of control over the immigration numbers then maybe the remainers would of won, But the EU said there could be no restriction on immigrant numbers so the governments hands were tied. So in a way the unelected rulers who make up the ruling body of the EU sowed the seeds of discontent among the ordinary voter. Many of whom are Labour voters they just could not have this impossible situation anymore. So Campbells gamble of silencing the Tory dissidents by getting a remain vote back fired and I for one am glad democracy did its job and let the majority have their say.

@rogshar As far as I can see so far we are going to fall off a cliff edge next year, and all because of a fearing too many foreigners! All of us are going to have to pay the price and it is going to be huge. I said before the referendum that the Irish Border would be an unsurrmountable problem and have been proved right. We were never ruled over by the EU, we had exactly the same input and vetoes as every other member state, Civil servants in Brussels didn’t tell us what to do, the council of ministers made the ultimate decisions after they had been debated in Strasbourg by MEPs some of which we elected and sent there. This is all a colossal mistake and a misrepresentation of how the EU operates. It is actually more democratic than our first past the post system of government. I hate the “little Englander” mentality some of the leavers display. I like to think in a more global manner, I liked being a British citizen who was also a citizen of Europe and the World. Instead we are pulling up the drawbridge and becoming a laughing stock in the eyes of Europe and the rest of the world.

@rogshar"citizens", "have", "but", "elected", "Cameron's". Just a few reasons why you voted to leave.

@Red_Cat Unkind...I noticed too!

@Marionville Yes, it was a trifle unkind. The frustration of the Brexit chaos has made me less tolerant.

@Red_Cat He seems to have decided discretion is the better part of valour, and disappeared!

@Marionville Give him time. He might be trying to figure out if we are the "lefties" of his challenge, or just trouble makers. Anyway, nice to meet you, Marionville 🙂

@Red_Cat How do you do too!

@rogshar the "ordinary British citizen" had nothing to get angry about unless you count the fiction and paranoia featured in some sections of the press. Anyway, governments everywhere are going to need to grow up fast and deal with the fact that ALL of us are the same species sharing the same planet, and pretty soon larger chunks of us are going to be forced to move around as the numbers increase and the climate changes. When that starts I don't want to he associated with a 'fuck you I'm alright Jack' country.
