I lived in Gorgie for a spell and on the days of Heart's home games my local, the famous Diggers pub was always mobbed. If It was a Hearts Hibs game ?. i stayed away.

Very sensible! Is the Hearts/Hibs rivalry religious or historic?

@Geoffrey51 A bit of both I think. More so on the Hibs side. Hibernian FC playing in green shirts

@Moravian of course and if my schoolboy Latin memory is correct Hibernia is Ireland I think.

@Geoffrey51 Right on. The club was formed by the Irish community in Edinburgh, as was Celtic in Glasgow but they do not have the same religious bigotry attached to them as Celtic and Rangers have.

@Moravian Got it, thanks for the education ?

Second only, if not at least equal to, Celtic/Rangers I bet! ?

Not quite as vehement in their support, but not far off.

As I’m originally from Edinburgh, I can appreciate this article. We lived close to Easter Road, and my Dad supported Hibs. Then I went to work on the other side of the city at the N.B. Distillery on the Gorgie Road, right next door to Tynecastle, Hearts’ ground. There was definitely fierce rivalry between the two teams and their supporters. Hope this young fella is continuing to recover.

I love the tribal rivalry. I know it gets out of hand sometimes but the passion is real, unlike some situations in life. My team is Southampton and the big rival is Portsmouth which has its roots in the dockyards of the early C20th
