Sir Philip Rutnam, head of the Civil Service at the Home Office has resigned in spectacular style, and is suing the Government for constructive dismissal. He says that Home Secretary Priti Patel has been briefing against him and that he had received complaints of Miss Patel shouting, swearing, belittling and making unreasonable demands of staff at the Home Office, creating an atmosphere of fear and bullying. He said it was his duty to call this behaviour out as it was his duty to protect the health, safely and wellbeing of his staff. Sir Philip, who has had a career spanning 33 years, added that he had attempted a “reconciliation “ with the Home Secretary, but she had made no attempt to engage with him on the matter.

This will now go to an Employment Tribunal where all the details will be laid out. Sir Philip said at a press conference, that the Cabinet Office had offered him a settlement which would have avoided this outcome, but he had turned it down. Lord Kerslake, the former head of the Civil Service, said Sir Philip’s departure was quite extraordinary and unprecedented. “For him to have done this - he must have been pushed to the limit and beyond” he stated, “ I think it will send shockwaves through the Civil Service”.

This government is rocking the very foundations in Whitehall, and in the meantime Boris and his girlfriend Carrie Symonds have just announced that they have got engaged...and are expecting a baby!!
