Planning a trip to Portland, OR in a bit. Any suggestions? I literally know nothing about the place. I prefer the outdoors to touristy type activities though a little bit of touristy stuff is welcome. Thanks!

I'm getting the urge to take a trip to nowhere. To just take off and drive in a direction and meander along a path of discovery. I need a break from this society, from the news, from life. October is looking promising for such a trip.

Just wanted to mention something in case you will be traveling to an Islamic country. When going through customs do not have atheist on any of your paperwork and don't admit to being one. In some countries they can legally kill you for saying so.

What accommodations do you use? B&B, 5 star hotels, camping, couch surfing, VRBO...? I like cabin rentals and hotel/motels.

I just purchased an older Honda Odyssey to convert into a camper. This will be my third van conversion. Has anyone else converted a vehicle to use as a camper? If so, where do you like to travel?

I’m planning an East to West and back road trip next year, hitting as many national parks and scenic (not touristy) sites as possible. What’s a “not to be missed” place you recommend?

If anyone's interested in travel to Haiti, despite the US and Canadian embassies' current advisories, I may be able to help/advise etc. I've been going 4x a year or more for 10 years now, though not as a tourist on the whole. Also for the Virgin ...

Do you keep souvenirs from your travels? I've thought about it but haven't gotten an idea that is unique or that feels right for me. I also don't want to clutter up my home. Maybe the experience itself is enough.

Just booked our return flight from Brussels for our beer tour this fall! Not sure yet where we'll fly into, maybe Paris? Take the train to Munich for a few days, then a few in Belgium. Can't wait!

Has anyone traveled to Egypt, Tunisia or Turkey in the months of December or January? Not sure if outdoor activities would be great at either destinations during that time of year.

When do you prefer to travel? Weekends, weekdays, in season, offseason? I love the summer so that's when I like to travel. It's hard to get time off work so we end up going mostly on weekends.

Why do you vacation? Just to get away or for adventure? I like site seeing. Museums and boat tours. We've been to the Bunker Hill Monument in Boston and climbed all 294 steps.
