It is mothers day, Mothering Sunday or St. Mary's day everywhere in the Christian world (2nd Sunday in March) and is a holiday dating back over a thousand years except for in the USA,
American for some reason known only to itself changed the date of Mother's day to the second Sunday in May in 1905
