In 1995 a-ha had been touring constantly for ten years, performing live and writing and releasing five albums since their first iconic hit Take On Me in 1985. Magne Furuholmen their keyboard player was diagnosed with arrhythmia..a heart condition brought on by stress, after blacking out on stage. It was time for a break, so after playing to record breaking audiences in South America and South Africa, they went on hiatus and took a break…a very long break. Two of them, Mags and Morten, moved back to Norway from the UK where they’d been living since 1982, and Pal went with American wife Lauren to live in NYC.
The three of them then got involved successfully in solo projects both sides of the Atlantic and sadly for the fans it looked like maybe it was curtains for the band…until they were invited to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in 1998. They accepted, and Pal immediately and very quickly wrote a new song for the occasion which they debuted in Oslo at the concert. The song was Summer Moved On…it turned out to become one of their best songs and biggest hits, and the event itself was the impetus the three of them needed to get back together to perfom and create more music as a band again.
Aren't we so happy that the Nobel committee invited them to perform!!! This is an awesome song for a comeback!! 🥰
Yes…and this first ever live performance of this song is their best one too,🥰
