My own recent visit to Norway & the Scottish Isles made me think of The Hebridean Overture which German composer Felix Mendelssohn was inspired to write after a sea voyage around the Scottish Hebrides in 1829, especially after seeing Fingal’s Cave on the island of Staffa. This recording by Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic includes still photographs taken in and around Fingal’s Cave…
Beautiful sound, beautiful scenes.
Yes…unique geographical features.
GORGEOUS! I want to visit that cave!
Yes…sadly you need to be in a much smaller boat than my cruise ship get near to it….crazy, choppy seas around Staffa mean it’s unlikely that I’ll be visiting it !
@Marionville And the cruise ship didn't arrange for the transfer of people interested in exploring onto a ''tender'' or a smaller, lighter boat? HUMPH.
@pamagain Not the one I was on…but there are others which do. I’m ok on the well stabilised bigger vessels but would be throwing up on a small boat on these very rough seas…
@Marionville Soooo embarrassing! Although...I'm sure you'd do it with style and grace.
@pamagain No…I don’t think even I would be able to chuck up with style or grace…but it’s nice of you to think so!
