I took a course in HS "The Bible as literature". You would not believe the outrage when the christian bible was compared to Norse , Greek and Roman mythology, (Very similar) and when looking at the various translations in English to show differences in understandings of common words.
That's a shame that more people don't understand that's exactly what it is. Mythology.
They can offer them fine, they can offer any extra curricular load of old shit they want to, the problem comes when they start mandating attendance as part of the actual curriculum and making educational qualifications reliant upon participation.
