Quick comment on the WA election.
I am coming to the view that the ALP is and will remain a party of government at the state level now, but finished federally. States go through cycles, even here in SA, but labor is often in power at state level, and thought of as better governments at that level. Federally though, the ALP is finished; it stands for nothing, abandoned any ideology in the 80s, and there is no confidence in it any more nationally. I don't even think people like the national LIB/NATs very much; they just know what they'll get. With the ALP, it's a nothing burger dog's breakfast. Sad. What would pre Hawke ALP leaders think, were they still here, including Gough? Horrified, me thinks.

Yes, they have 'lost' their way of late, especially when they had Dills like Bill 'Shortonballs' Shorten, etc, running the show.
But of late we've had the like of Tony, the Rabbit, Abbott, Malcolm, 'Malcontemptuous Turdball' Turnbull and Scott, 'Happy-Clappy, Jesus Chappy, tRump Rump Kissing,' Morrison all, imo, screwing the country up BIG time.
As the saying goes, " You CAN only kick a dog when it is down for so long, then it WILL get up again and start biting back at you," so, imo, the REAL people of Australia are just about ready to bite back and bite bloody hard as well.

At the state level perhaps, but Scumbo is doing fine. Let's face it. Since Whitlam, the ALP won a series of elections because people liked Hawke and he sucked business off to be popular. They sqeaked an election under Keating in 93. Since 93 they've lost every election except 2007. 2010 they lost but formed a govt due to dickhead Abbott not even being able to negotiate with 3 conservative independents. Going on to 30 years only one real election win, mainly due to Howard fatigue. And it will be 30 years because they won't win the next one. Even when the nonsense polls favour them they lose, and the polls don't favour them. The ALP is not a serious contender federally any more. They don't stand for anything. The right wing union control over 40 years has destroyed it. There're no structures for reform. Now they're going to dump Albanese, someone i liked and thought genuinely on the left, but he's compromised all his views and is left empty, like the rest of the party. Political parties are like people: if you abandon your principles, in the end people have no respect for you.

@Triphid yeah, well I meant his opinion polls are doing fine. He's a sleezebag, we know that, a sleezebag who'll probably get reelected. He appeals to non thinking self-interested middle Australia, who pretend to be religious and pretend they think about things other than themselves, though, like him, they don't.
