I want a petition started that requires everyone to be taught the basics of good parenting.
All people should at least be allowed the right to being brought up without fear; to be respected, and not be the playthings of adults, so that when they become adults they will not be emotionally crippled, and may compete and thrive.
Many parents mean well, but are ignorant.
It's presently the luck of the draw whether one reaches adulthood (broadly) emotionally intact – which is ridiculous.
It would cost nothing, so should get the support of everyone, unlike discussions about poverty, housing, employment and environmental issues.
Parenting should be viewed differently than it currently is.
Caretakers take care – they don't boss and torment and impose their will.

Fine but who is the one to decide what is correct and what is incorrect? It's not just common sense. Each person (child or adult ) is an individual and as such have individual needs and ideas. However, very young children need to be told what is not good for them. NO you cannot reason with an 18 month old or 36 month child as they are very selfish at this time in their life. Sometimes a short sharp smack does stop them doing silly things, like touching a hot stove or trying to grab fire. I do not advocate corporal punishment as this just teaches them that might is right.
And one persons ideal can be an anathema to someone else. So which is correct? And then, unfortunately, there's religion. So a nice idea but not very tenable

parents have to become the primary carers again, not, as it became so popular recently, shove the responsibility for their children into the lap of the schooling system & other secondary care-taking institutions. there is a lack of willingness or courage to be accountable for offspring, to not shy from teaching their own children, not only about their liberties within the system, but especially about boundaries in social contacts & responsibility to their deeds. if parenting would be licensed on a standard just as driver's licenses are, many people wouldn't pass the test... which would be a relief to the environment.

Anyone who interacts with children is parenting. Actually, all interactions have an effect, regardless of age and maturity: every interaction should be taken seriously, but especial care must be taken when interacting with children.
I don't think teachers are expected to replace parents, but I haven't been keeping up on social norms. What is a society to do if parents neglect their duties towards their children?
Should the children be abandoned to their fate?
It is a depressing thought.

@Beelzebant Unfortunately B, it's the kids that are misbehaving at school, that you find have the worst home life. We can call DOCS if things are really bad but the child would have to be in real danger to be taken away from family. Most of these parents have addiction or mental health problems that inhibit their growth. We need to lift people out of poverty, ensure that people have jobs (even if a 4 day week becomes the norm). We can't force parents to do parenting courses. There are a lot more issues involved than just parenting.

Pretty much agree, I raised 2 kids on my own, now 34 and 32, we left their mother because she was more interested in what she wanted and not was best for children. I also have a foster child now 23, his parents keep stuffing his life around and I have to keep putting back the pieces.

Back in about 1992 Australia signed and ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. As far as I am aware, 26 years on, Australian law has not properly incorporated these laws.
If they had numerous government ministers and prime ministers would have been arrested and stood trial at the Hague or Geneva for Crimes against Humanity in respect of the treatment of Australian First Nation's Children and People as well as all other Australians individually discriminated against as well as the migrants held offshore in concentration camps.
It was once put to me that even a bad parent through their actions can teach a child not to continue the "bad" parenting they dole out. It is a matter of cultural proclivity as to what is good versus bad. That Jews circumcise their male offspring sacrificing the foreskin to their God is seen by them as good. Civilised people see it as inhumanely barbarous.

Even earlier Australia ratified the Human Rights Conventions but even those States and Territories purporting to uphold them through their own bills or charters of rights only pay lip service to the concepts of equality and non-discrimination.
