And WE should elect the Prime Minister separately in Federal Elections no matter which party wins government as well, that would, possibly, make for a more equitable system of government in my opinion.
PLUS, 1) eradicate completely the Preference vote ( vote trading) system all together, one vote SHOULD mean only 1 vote for 1 candidate ONLY,
2) ALL Political Parties MUST stand solely ALONE and on their OWN merits, i.e. NO Coalitions (collusions) as we, imho, see with the Liberal-National Party/Parties where the ' select' a member from each to stand as a Candidate in each electorate thereby almost ensuring that they WILL gain election in that Electorate, and,
3) ANY Parties found to be or fostering such Coalitions either before or after Elections SHOULD be IMMEDIATELY banned and EXCLUDED from hold seats and taking part in ANY elections for a period of NOT least than 5 calendar years.

From memory the referendum for the republic was defeated because the people wanted to have a say in who gets the top job.
@PontifexMarximus Well that may be so but imo it IS the way we need to go, we've under the thumbs of England and America for far to long, We need to become a Republic in our own right, our own way and start being a TRUE democracy under the original tenets of democracy, i.e. The Government of the People, BY the PEOPLE and FOR the PEOPLE, ALL the PEOPLE and not just the privileged few as it is now.
