50 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER -

I want to reach a minimum of 50 reviews on my book's Amazon landing page. This is the minimum you have to reach before the site's algorithm will recognize you and start helping to promote your book in the Also Boughts. I've been working on this for awhile now and I've tried a variety of strategies to accomplish it but, to date, I've only managed 16 reviews in total.

So far I've tried the following:

* - Facebook Ads😘 I used FB to promote the book in populous areas of the US, Canada, and Europe.
Total Sales: 1 book

* - The Fussy Librarian Mailing List😘 Sent notice out to 32,000 readers of fantasy subscribed to the list.
Total Sales: 2 books.

*- Book Review Blogs😘 Sent out dozens of queries to online reviewers to consider my book for review.
Total Relies: 1 review

The rest of the reviews are primarily from people in reading groups and those who've found it by chance. Since most of us have to deal with the problem of marketing our work, I was wondering what other suggestions you might have that you've tried and yielded better results than what I've seen.

Okay, first, one should never pay for a review, that is a given. However, where you have gone wrong is in having reviewers pay for the book they review. People send me their books for review. Granted, that is a bit of a different deal, but the idea is the same. What you might try to do is offer a free book in exchange for a review. That does not mean some won't take advantage just to get a free book, but it does mean you will have improved your chances of getting those reviews. Set up a few posts in good traffic areas offering the book in exchange for review and see what happens. You might be surprised.

Give us a pitch for your book. Make it short and super positive. Maybe someone here will be interested. Perhaps even me. You won't know unless you take the shot. Do make it professional, though. You might even include a couple of juicy paragraphs out of the work that will whet our apatites.

Agreed. I would never pay for a review. I don't know why anyone would. The online reviewers were offered a free PDF of the book (cover included) to review. I wouldn't have them pay for a copy since they'd be doing me a favor. Offering a printed copy to everyone would be needlessly expensive on my end given the combined costs of printing and shipping each and every copy so the PDF mimicked the printed book in every way including chapter page illustrations.

Okay, I'll create a pitch and post it in a thread all its own when its ready Know of any examples of an exceptional pitch that's online that I can use for reference?

@Sgt_Spanky -- No, Sir, I don't. I think you're on your own with that. Just think a three to five short paragraph hit that tells a little about the story in a way that is compelling and that you're offering a free reader's copy (I think most understand the cost element) for a brief review posted to Amazon or wherever you prefer.
