Occasionally something happens in this writing business that makes up for a lot of the pain it entails. I got a Thank You shout from one of my contributing authors, Ron Leming, for putting his piece, Our Town into the lineup for our program of audio drama presentations. Here's the note:

" I was quite thrilled when my brother from another family, J. Richard Jacobs, let me know that my story, Our Town, in one of his excellent anthologies, was being made into a spoken word doohickey, with even some theme music he wrote. Never had my work turned into spoken word, so that's pretty durn cool. Thanks J. It's one of my better stories, too.
I don't get much mail here. That distresses me as I come from the days when a writer lived and died by the mail. So not getting much distresses me. For no good reason, of course, but I have this weird quirk where I feel like people have forgotten me. I really hate thinking about being forgotten. The whole writer and artist thing, you know. I've done some good stuff, and a few great things, but as a writer or artist, I haven't made the kind of impact I truly wanted and expedcted to. Life has this nasty tendency to get in the way at just the worst time. I hate when that happens."
