Okay, so a friend sent me a greeting with the words, "Oh what a beautiful morning, "O what a beautiful day," and that reminded me of something I wrote, so I dug through my piles of crap and found it.

This was written way back when we had a major problem with drainage in Los Angeles caused by trash that had been dumped in the LA River that eventually clogged most of the outlets. So long ago, I don't remember when it was, but it inspired me to produce one of my magnificent and epic poems set to the tune of, well, the title words from the greeting, "Oh what a beautiful morning".

There's a dense, dingy fog o'er the city,
There's a smell in the air that ain't pretty,
The sewer's backed up with an odorous goo,
An' it looks like it's gonna come out this way too.

Oh what a terrible mornin',
Oh what a frightenin' day,
I've got a horrible feelin',
Everythin's comin' my way.

Oh the screamin' of people in panic,
An' the honkin' of horns sounds so frantic,
The smell is so bad that I cain't hardly see,
An' the car wouldn't start, why's this happ'nin' to me?

Oh what a terrible mornin',
Oh what a frightenin' day,
I've got a horrible feelin',
Everythin's comin' my way.

All the people are runnin' so quickly,
To escape from that odor so sickly,
They don't turn their heads as they run right on by,
An' I'm packin' my bags as the odor draws nigh.

Oh what a terrible mornin',
Oh what a frightenin' day,
I've got a horrible feelin',
Everythin's comin' my way.

It's all squeaky clean now -- well, by comparison.

@evidentialist Am I the only one who sang this? Lol. Love it.

@EllenDale -- Depends upon which lyric you're talking about, I suspect. I think almost everyone sang the original. If you're talking about my parody lyric, we released it as a single that we cut as a demo and it got a little air play in Los Angeles for about two weeks -- maybe less, then died as it should have. If you're talking about that one, I'm shocked, a little embarrassed anyone even remembered it, and amazed that anyone could remember it.

@Admin -- we have something of a formatting problem when it comes to poetry. It can be gotten around, but at expense of space. Can it be fixed, or is that asking too much? I know it's a bother, so if you decide against messing with it, I do understand.

Yeah, looks like we have a problem parsing the line-breaks. I wrote a silly "poem format" which tries to format things nicely but only got it to sorta work. To use it put [poem ] and [/poem ] around the text (without the spaces inside the brackets).

It' the theme song for "Oklahoma" sung by Gordon MacRae. Beautiful song, great singer, one of my favorite musicals, next to "Paint Your Wagon". Having said that, I like your version also, and considering the politics going on in this country right now, it is quite fitting in more ways than one.

@MikeFlora -- that managed to dredge up a full guffaw from this end. Agreed.
