Earlier I posted that i had a contract for a writing job selling one of MY stories. (Not ghost-writing someone else's idea.)
I think I also posted that the job was canceled because WITHIN 7 DAYS, we mutually agreed that our professional relationship was not a good fit.
Now, after having been charged a project fee from the site we use to mitigate these jobs, I've contested the payment because I had not and will not receive compensation.
Today I received a message from the admin of that site stating the clients position. Included in her nasty review, it was indicated that my work was inadequate and does not match the sample in my proposal. It was also stated that I disregarded one of her notes. (Untrue) Furthmore, she said I wasted her time and I am wasting more trying to get the project fee reversed on my account.
Ugh.
She sounds like she's swallowed the whole capitalist rulebook from Henry Ford -- right down to her conveyor-belt approach in processing the work of genuine writers. Do you perceive her "suggestions" for changes to your original idea and story as an attempted dumbing down of your work in any way, even in trying to standardise it?
I had two religious elements to the story. those needed to go. i had a grandmother sacrificing herself for her granddaughter. that had to go. i had a secondhand shop keeper who had information about the twins trapped in a haunted mirror. the shop keeper had to go. and the final thing was lengthy discussion on how a mirror can be held in a hand and carried from room to room.
@Lillyfield41 Wow, un-be-lievable. How very, very corrupting ultimately -- These people rob the reading public of an infinitely more satisfying experience. As a ghost writer you should at least be given the respect of your craft. Imagine if these philistines hired, say, a cabinetmaker. Would they stand over the craftswoman and demand this stylistic touch has to go, and this piece of character... trying to reduce the craft to that of an automoton? If you've ever seen a tv program called "Antiques Roadshow" (I mean particularly the UK original series), you have those punters who intuitively appreciate something well-turned and bring it along. And you have the know-nothings who say, "It just looked old and needed a wash, and wasn't practical so I biffed it."
So sorry to hear, it was great to hear your good news; here’s hoping your relationship can be mended to some degree and you regain some confidence in the process. It sounds like you’ve been let down
Honestly, I don't want to continue a relationship with this one. She sounds like she has a formula for publiahing e-books. There isn't any level of creativity needed. I chose wrong when I selected the project. But, I refuse to pay for that poor choice.
@Lillyfield41 Fully agree with you -- The last thing I would do is go, cap in hand, for a "Please sir, I want some more." Amazing how nice and flattering these power-mongering, talentless self-proclaimed "authors" can be, and absolutely ruthless when it comes to, saving "face" (which is all they have, no substance).
@Garbonza I call them corpses (because i am the ghost)
@Lillyfield41 Oh, I see. When you said you had a contract I thought you were going to continue with them. If you don’t have to that’s much better
@girlwithsmiles Yes, to be clear, the contract was provisional on the first project being agreeable. It was canceled within 7 days (i believe no the third day of the relationship), and there were terms allowing the seven days for consideration. Because she was buying a story that I had already completed, I was surprised that there were so many changes requested. And then she said that the 'new' work was not similar enough to the sample (full story) to move forward. I could see after the three days she would have a problem with everything. It reminded me of a project I was employed for in the past. In that one, I worked for over a month on several volumes of short stories and was stiffed for payment because I could not meet all the changes throughout the relationship. (I thought I was addressing every note, but perception and money are involved.)
Life....
I know it's part of life, I'm disaplointed that the job didn't work out though. And frankly angry this client is trying to besmirch my name and work.
Unfortunately the site where I had clients who were pleased with me is no longer in business.
Sounds like nonsense... Countersue... You're a great writer...
There's no suit and it won't come to litigation; it's jus frustrating.
Thanks for the kind words on my writing.
not good. what remedies do you have?
I have a contract and it's just a matter of spending time on this, but I'm annoyed that it's coming to this. The old site I used did not charge the management/project fee until I got paid.
This site has been nothing but a headache. It's just frustrating.
@Lillyfield41 good luck
