I read about a short screenplay contest, maybe a month ago? It took all of two hours for me to write about 15 pages the same day I discovered it. Now it's a month and a half later. It's been polished up for over a week, pared down to the required ten pages or less, and sitting in my drive.
I just submitted it and i feel accomplished. In no way do I ever expect to win any of these contests, but look for them more to challenge my creativity.
I'm quite pleased with myself for the moment.

It’s great to have something to spur on inspiration isn’t it? A class, a competition or a piece of work with a theme that fires you up. All the best with the competition

It is a decidedly special feeling for which words, oddly, don't seem to do the writer's description proper justice.
Good for you. I enter the ones with low reading fees or no fees and I use them in the same way you do. When I do win, it's sort of frosting on the cake but still doesn't physically buy anything but perhaps a cup of coffee. I have a stack of awards with nothing to show for it but the awards. I keep doing it anyway. It is good motivation and frequently prompts something of an offshoot that I can sell.
Keep up the good work and by all means, keep on keepin' on.

Last time and only time I entered a writing contest, I won $500 worth of camping gear.
