I used to attend the Seneca, SC, writer's group. One was expected to bring their written work and read aloud to the members for ten minutes. Afterwards, there was a literary criticism. It was one way to kill two hours with ten people. They were suspicious of any new members because people had showed up with recording devices with apparent plans to publish another person’s work. New members also meant the meetings got longer.
There was an option to join the group after the meeting for lunch and fellowship for another two hours.
There I was with a 120 page opus. The math said "don't go."
Has anybody encountered something like that"?
