I was hoping someone could explain the ethical objections to eggs and dairy. I already accept that putting animals in cruel living conditions (like small cages, and unsanitary conditions) is a bad thing.
I know it's to tell in writing, but I am earnestly asking. I won't bicker with you, just possibly ask for clarification.

This is a great video! Thanks for posting. There is a lot to think about in there. I'll need to watch it again few times to digest it all.
Two follow ups:
- the argument he makes regarding equal female/male offspring in cattle would also apply to chickens, correct? Or is there a natural bias towards hens? I feel silly asking this, because I am pretty sure I know the answer
- it has been suggested that hive animals may possess a conciousness that exists as a consequence of the action of the individual animals, but is not accessible to them. Does this idea have any currency in vegan ethics?
@CraeftSmith I can partialy answer your second question. If the hen is better allowed to be near a roster then their eggs are never fertalized and nothing gets slaughtered. Do the ongoing process of raising eggs doesn't increase slaughter. What you're probably referring to is that when we get the hens that are going to lay eggs, we'd probably still get an even mixture of hens and roosters. I don't know what usually happens to the surplus of roosters.

Another, it depends question. Most dairy and eggs are farmed with cruel practices, cutting off beaks, extreme crowding, unsanitary conditions and on and on. Some places, like here the chickens are free to roam and are fed and protected. Cows likewise. Like Samm said cow milk is not human milk and often presents digestion problems especially from cows that are commercially produced and kept. Goat milk is better and milk from sheep is better still. I have a reaction to dairy and my chart clearly shows a strong reaction to cow milk and a lesser one to goat (sheep is not shown). My one issue with vegan is with honey.

I had wondered about honey, and more generally if there is a philosophy that covers animals of decreasing complexity. For example, would it be ok to eat individual ants? Does veganism apply to the whole animal kingdom? What about other kingdoms?
@CraeftSmith It can apply to whatever one feels is right. The big problem with meat is the amount of resources needed to grow it, the conditions it is raised, the chemicals used and the pollution that it creates. These issues don't exist with insects.One problem with honey is that is is often adulterated.
- Eggs -- the hens are kept in the cage the size of an iPad and have super short lives, the male chicks are ground up alive (or thrown into garbage bags to suffocate) because they are "useless".
- Dairy -- all calves are taken from their mums after birth...males are caged and then murdered as babies for "veal". The females are artificially bred and then live a life of servitude/rape/having their children stolen until finally murdered when their "production" drops off before the age of 6-7. Naturally, cows can live to be over 30.
