JackPedigo comments on Sep 17, 2018:
Let's see; after women got the right to vote what was the first thing they got passed, Prohibition! Lets be careful with generalities. Also, I just heard on NPR that even though over 60% of women are against tRump 28% still support him.
Carin replies on Sep 19, 2018:
@JackPedigo I don't know if Prohibition was a "huge" mistake. Was anyone really harmed? I can think of many laws that have had truly disastrous results. I read somewhere that certain types of diseases decreased, along with admittances to insane asylums. Women saw the harm that drunken husbands & fathers were inflicting on their families, & in those times women had fewer protections & legal rights if they or their kids were being harmed. Many of the early suffragettes got their start in the temperance movement & desired the vote so they could protect their families.

@TheGreatShadow Yeah I could turn that into 5 gallons trying to fix it up! That's why I now just do a bowl of it to see if it even does any good. My daughter would throw the whole thing in a colander & rinse all the sauce off & start over. She's so sensible. But I don't want to waste all that sauce so I end up making gallons of expensive chicken food... I can't help it! Good luck--tell us how it all works out, like did you have to go buy a dog or some chickens?

The farmed fish are a threat to wild fish, releasing drugs they have been fed as well as diseases & parasites caused by overcrowding in the net pens. Not to mention concentrated waste. There have also been escapes of fish that could mess with the wild fish's genetics.

Do you like worms? I have a good worm story that also happens to relate to the original post. Many years ago I was walking down one of our narrow streets (no sidewalks) & right at the edge of the pavement I actually saw a mole tunneling under the surface, really fast. Now that alone was pretty surprising because they hear or feel the softest foot steps & freeze or go backwards. In a few seconds I saw the reason for the mole's carelessness--earthworms began to almost literally SHOOT out of the soft ground to escape the mole! They knew when to leave what is normally their safe place & come up on the dry ground. I saw right then that worms do care about their lives & have some fairly complex behaviors. One of the cooler moments in my life.

More importantly: do you say ah'ern or eyeron. Having a slight twang, I say ah'ern (iron). I'm actually interested in how dialects in other states say "iron". Also i say coopawn, milk, and pillow.
Carin replies on Sep 2, 2018:
I was taught in school that I-run instead of iron was just a mispronunciation.
How does this Joseph Campbell quote tie in with your atheism/agnosticism? Or not?
Carin comments on Sep 2, 2018:
I think I love everything he says. & I think that is what I've been searching for most of my life. I feel like I'm getting closer. Or was, till my life got weird about 18 months ago. But still working on it, just more slowly.
Carin replies on Sep 2, 2018:
I guess it ties in with Atheism because we don't have a religion with a built in purpose for life. We have to find our own, real one. Or decide there is not one at all.
Advice needed please

Take care of your family first before you try to share. It is important to keep your family safe and with a roof over your head. Work on getting a better job. The rest will work its way out.

@CoCoCatina I am just so impressed with your bravery!
Who is in process of sewing Christmas gifts? What are you making?
Carin comments on Aug 31, 2018:
I'm sewing a few dolls for preschoolers in Africa. They like it if I send a long strip on cloth so they can carry their little babies on the backs just like their moms do.
Carin replies on Sep 1, 2018:
@MissKathleen It did have a very nice feel to it. The next fabric I'm going to use is from a baby sling. Just a little stretchy & soft & smooth.

@MissKathleen I didn't really think they were either, but I just didn't like how they look. I sent photos to the program director in Malawi (who is African) & he said the kids would love them. I don't know what the fabric was. It was donated or thrift store. Slightly stretchy & felt a little like suede. Seemed very good quality. I think felt would soon be a mess over there. I honestly know little about fabrics & sewing so I can only sew for desperate people! (;
Legalization of all drugs
Carin comments on Aug 31, 2018:
The 2 deadliest drugs are already legal-alcohol & tobacco.
Carin replies on Sep 1, 2018:
@Lucignolo Maybe it's just another conspiracy thing, but I heard consumption actually did you down, as did admissions to asylums, during prohibition. I do believe the bootlegging made organized crime bigger though. Interesting about Portugal! I wonder how that made addictions drop? I grew up partly in Germany & the same thing with the wine. I thought it tasted awful & still do!

Carin replies on Sep 1, 2018:
@Lucignolo It is--but does it mean that them being legal is why more people use & kill themselves with them? Or does it mean it's just silly to have much less lethal drugs be illegal while those 2 are killing thousands a year? Or, would people abuse the other drugs more if they were legal & start killing themselves at the same rate that alcohol & tobacco users do? I have NO idea....
What is the difference between hovering and viewing??

@MissKathleen Here are the first dolls I made. I didn't like how the faces came out & my kids said they looked racist, so now I send the dolls with no faces & supplies for people there to embroider faces & also make the hair, which takes me forever. I decided I liked the design for the smaller doll too, & only sew that one now. You can see the fabric strips I send with each doll too.
Why does it say the group is about sewing?
Carin comments on Aug 30, 2018:
Hi everyone. Here are the gifts I sew. They are flannel, washable sanitary napkins for school girls in Africa. Many families, being already too poor to afford enough food, are unable to afford Kotex. The girls miss school every month. They often get behind & drop out of school in ...
Carin replies on Aug 30, 2018:
@MissKathleen I have a facebook page called Help Girls in Africa that is devoted to this. Sometimes people send me fabric. There's a very large organization called Days For Girls who have an excellent website that goes into a lot of detail.

@Allikat You're brave! Maybe you can make them look like cuddling teddy bears.
So this pisses me off.
Carin comments on Aug 30, 2018:
You can just put theirs on the clean table or in a dryer; it's a common thing to do. But I wouldn't turn on the dryer--some stuff could be damaged by that.

@Spag84 I never could afford places with laundry.

I'm so sorry..sounds like you have ptsd..I did also after my ex. You could try CBD oil, sold in most health food stores, since studies show it relieves depression and anxiety. I can't get any here in Thailand (I moved here in 2010, after the divorce) but I'm taking cannabis oil to treat cancer, ...

Your thoughts on pubic hair fashions?
patchoullijulie comments on Aug 29, 2018:
Well, I am going to go against the train of preference and go ewww! ickkk! on the hairless bod. It reminds me too much of the pre pubescent condition. But I am a huge supporter of each to his/her own. :D
Carin replies on Aug 30, 2018:
Yes. I think would feel like a pedophile with a man with no body hair! How can a guy look manly without any hair on his body?
So this pisses me off.

I don't play with that shit. If it's been sitting in there a while I take it out and leave it on top of the washer. Sometimes I would even get my stuff dry and be gone before they came for their stuff
