Is anyone here interested in Buddhist philosophy, not religion.?
MsDemeanour comments on Apr 20, 2018:
Not into religion as such but I do agree with living in the present moment (mindfulness) as buddhists strive to do all their lives. It's useless dwelling on the past which is now just a subjective memory. Nor should we concern ourselves with a future that may or may not happen.......

personally I think it disingenuous to state you're agnostic and not atheist. "Atheist" is passive. It does not mean you're a member of a group like the freemasons. I don't think facebook is a reliable source. These stats can't be found at the ABS. Also it can't be presumed that when men are victims of DV that the perpetrators are always women. Many male victims come from same sex relationships. Anyway I thought it was unPC to limit gender to just two sexes. I also don't see any statistics supporting the correlation between DV and circumcism. Perhaps that is a potential research area. Humans are violent. We've always been violent. We are less violent now than we have been in the past, but hey......plenty of room for improvement. I support the abolition of circumcism.

Incidently re article What was the point of the study of flacid penises? Husb was a grower and he'd go from nothing to eye-watering. Oh and i agree it's not about shoe size ladies.........It is about how close the ring finger reaches up to the middle finger. Check it out boys and tell me if I'm wrong. What is your Definition of:
MsDemeanour comments on Oct 14, 2018:
Atheism and agnosticism are pretty straight forward but spirituality is far more ambiguous. I believe I'm spiritual because I can be so emotionally moved by things (real things that is) For example, I can be brought to tears when I hear a choir sing Handel's messiah. I'm certainly not religious but it is an amazing piece of work. The exuberance of standing on a precipice, looking down on the vast valley bellow. The thrill of riding my motorbike far too fast, weaving in out of city traffic. THe awe of looking at the vastness of stars as I reflect on how insignificant I am in comparison to the universe. When I create something beautiful and original, it is like an extension of me. When I connect with someone who is a stranger and we realise we are so like-minded. I believe in the interconnectedness of humans and all living things and that no one should be alone because we need each other to thrive. I see the beauty and the pain and this to me is a spiritual experience.
In a bit of quandary here and I'm hoping for some helpful suggestions from friends and members.

Your mental health is the most important issue here. If you can hand the issue over to lawyers to sort while you get on with your life.....do it. On the other hand, if you're going to be stressed for the next year, you have to ask yourself if it is really worth it? Sometimes there is freedom in just forgiving and moving on (yu make your own narrative eg: Obviously the woman is stressed and unhappy with her life to be taking out her rage on you). But will you regret not taking action? By god there is more drama in Broken hill than I would've reckoned. If they moved Neighbours out to B.H. I just might watch it. ;)

MsDemeanour comments on May 17, 2019:
I tried to reply to @WilliamFlemming but for some reason my 'reply' button isn't working. What I want to say is that 'assumptions' arent good enough to believe in. By all means pose an hypothesis and then experiment to see if your hypothesis holds weight. If we as atheists, aren't practicing critical thinking skills then we have no right to call ourselves atheists. As @Allamda said: now more than ever do we need critical thinking skills. As for 'framing beliefs', again, what basis is there for truth? None as far as I can see. Just because you're automatically a 'glass half empty' person does not mean that you can't decide to change and have a more positive outlook at things. I was brought up in a very right wing family that discussed politics daily. To my parents it was all about economics. As I got older, did some personal critical thinking, I realised that no amount of economising was going to address climate change; right wingers were not concerned with social justice or distribution of wealth. If I am completely off track here Matias, can you please give me an example. I might have 'framing beliefs' definition wrong.
We have reached the point where it is no longer possible to blame the looting and violence upon ...
MsDemeanour comments on Jun 1, 2020:
Just because something is illegal doesn't make it immoral. Was the French Revolution morally wrong? It was certainly illegal. When the divide between the rich and the poor becomes so extreme; and when the poor are exploited and struggling, just to survive, something has to give. I support the sentiments of this poster but I am sceptical of further dialogue. For decades people have spoken of social injustice but nothing changes. Unbelievably, the great American dream myth persists and socialism remains a dirty word. Good luck to you all. (BTW, I am not pointing the finger at the USA while ignoring my own back yard. Australia has a disgraceful record when it comes to our treatment of indigenous peoples and refugees; and the economic divide between people continues to increase).

MsDemeanour comments on Oct 19, 2018:
Lots of different kinds of love. The French have five words for our word love. But I am guessing you are talking romantic love. I knew I was really in love with my husband, some months after going out, when I met his family. His family were like mine. We fit together like jigsaw pieces. I recall the feelings of floating on air, the colours being brighter. I was so happy. That passes soon enough. But the birth of our children...what we made together, brought us together in a greater way. We had comfortable silence, similar life views and values. And I knew we could travel around Australia in our retirement and still be best friends. I'm sorry if you have never experienced it. I experienced it just this once and feel incredibly lucky to have had this experience. He died young 18yrs ago but still I am lucky to have experienced this. MsDemeanour comments on Dec 28, 2018:
I think it depends on your country. I proudly proclaim my atheism and no one is particularly interested. Someone asked me recently how i can be so sure and thus not be agnostic. I enjoy a good debate. In my country it's more weird for someone to come out and say "I'm a christian" People might say 'I'm catholic' but that is more a cultural identity than any personal relationship with god. However despite all this we have got an unelected prime minister who is a born again christian. He gets a lot of flack from the media over his beliefs. I'll be glad when next election comes around and he is ousted.

MsDemeanour comments on Jun 15, 2018:
No one should be in prison unless they are a danger to others. There are other ways of dealing with crimes like theft (often related to poverty and addictions). No one should go to prison for being so poor they can't pay their fines. There are other ways of punishing. Curfews, public service would go far in rehabilitation and would cost the state far less money.

MsDemeanour comments on Jun 9, 2018:
An interesting read but I don't agree. I don't want superstitions to get me through the rough times. I live, therefore there must at times be suffering. But at 54, I look back at the worst times of my life and they are not without positives. They are the times I have grown as a human being. The love and support I received at the death of my young husband from fellow humanists could not have been more helpful had they been religious. In fact their love and support was all the more valuable because their motives weren't clouded by doing their 'christian duty'.
