Mind numbing sex - what's your secret?
dare2dream comments on Sep 24, 2018:
Laying the groundwork of having a great relationship first is a prerequisite for MNS (mind numbing sex). Friends first, mutual respect, physical attraction (of course) and some romance. With a start like that the rest should be good.
I think this one takes the cake.
dare2dream comments on Mar 25, 2020:
I was told by a gun-loving friend that they have their guns so others don't take supplies away from them. I asked him if someone came to his door asking for food or toilet paper would he shove a gun in his face or would he share what he has? Civilization occurs when individuals start working together cooperatively as opposed to individuals trying to survive competitively. People who own an arsenal of weapons are already living in a dystopian world within their own mind.

I think the best reason to lose your faith is because you found something better: Reason. Being evidence based is more reliable than being faith based. Faith is believing in things without evidence or even if there is more evidence to the contrary you believe anyway. This is illogical! You can tell them that.
Hot Button Question 3
dare2dream comments on Jun 12, 2018:
Unbridled capitalism was shown to be faulty when the markets collapsed in 2008. Capitalism is an economic system that relies on competition where you get winners and losers. Unfortunately, the winners stack the deck so the winners keep winning and the losers keep losing. It has been said that Socialism does not provide enough motivation for production. Therefore, I propose a hybrid system of capitalism and socialism. There will be a check on the other's power. The capitalism side will motivate production and the socialism side will guarantee economic justice. Interestingly, this is sort of what we used to have during the New Deal.
Antifa (pronounced 'Anti fa' not 'anteefa') has been the name of anti fasist organisations in EU ...
dare2dream comments on Aug 22, 2019:
Antifa is trying to fight violence with more violence. What would happen if the fascists held a rally in the park looking for a fight and no one else went? (Crickets). Now *that* would send a message. The best way to fight violence is with laws and law enforcement (sworn officers - not another mob).
Being agnostic or any other ideology is alright.
dare2dream comments on Mar 26, 2019:
I see it like this. All people, both the god believer and the atheist, are all seekers of the truth. The difference between them is god believers rely on faith to find their truth. Atheists rely on evidence and logic, reason, to find the truth. Faith fosters a closed mind because they claim they have the answers. Atheists should have a mind open to new evidence and subject to change (improving). Losing one’s religion or faith does not mean they will lose hope. They are only losing their delusions and gaining a better understanding of reality based on evidence. The hope an atheist has is grounded in fact and understanding.
"Logic, logic, logic.
dare2dream comments on Aug 22, 2019:
I see something my way and you see it another. Who is right? Maybe we both are! I see part of the truth and you see another part of the truth. If I can see it your way too, I'll see the whole truth. I think there is some logic in that. :D

Has anyone had an uncomfortable experience with open carry nuts?
dare2dream comments on May 24, 2018:
They think they are "Defenders of Freedom" but what they really are are men acting like boys playing soldier with real guns. I would call the police. The police will come and check the gun nut out. Even if open carry is legal, maybe the nut will get tired of being stopped all the time by the police.

When most people take a position on an issue, most people "go with their gut" or their feelings instead of analyzing and deliberating. They either don't need facts or don't think of how good the facts are that they do use. Therefore, giving them facts and evidence will not get them to change their mind. You have to tell them a story that reaches their heart.* That* they can relate to.

I read it as he does not mind paying his **fair** share of taxes. Then he finds out that the rich are not paying so his share is not fair. What do you think about this meme? Is the “creator” correct!
dare2dream comments on Jan 20, 2020:
I believe the meme is correct. A worker or a consumer is not the same as a capitalist. According to the definition, a capitalist owns the means of production. In other words they might own a factory or a mom & pop business. But just being a worker and home renter does not make one a capitalist. Also just being a supporter of capitalism does not mean you own any means of production. Thinking you do, just means the capitalists have you thinking you are one of them so you will unwittingly support their dominance over you.

This article tries to justify separating children from their parents because : - The parents committed the misdemeanor of illegally entering the country. - They might be separated for a short time in some cases. - Some are not related. When I lost my dear wife to A.L.S. five years ago my life was destroyed. I knew I had to make a new life out of the ashes of the old. How do I do that? I "put myself out there" by joining new social circles, meeting new people and made new friends as well as stayed connected to the old ones. You don't need to "fit in". Join social circles that fit you. Nothing could make me feel better but keeping busy and following my passions was a good distraction!
Is Chris hedges correct about Trump and the Deep State?

dare2dream comments on Feb 25, 2020:
Excellent question, ToolGuy. It's like the question, do the ends justify the means. I don't think so. There must be a tactful way of honesty or an avoidance of the question. I find the fault in the human trait of preferring what we want to hear over the truth. Often, we can't handle the truth! We are often too busy defending the ego that we can't use an unpleasant truth constructively.

Unions organizing and their influence is diminished in the USA.

dare2dream comments on Apr 29, 2018:
I think people can be in a romantic relationship with "no BS, no games and everything discussed beforehand". They just have to be honest and drama-free. Could it be you got a little "gun shy" after some bad experiences? No one can blame you for that! But getting "benefits" without emotional attachment just sounds a bit too shallow and superficial for me. Keeping an "arrangement" on the down low feels a bit sneaky. Just my opinion. But I was married for a lifetime (hers) and single for only the last five.

dare2dream comments on Jun 3, 2019:
You can tell him that everyone understands the value of evidence so, when it comes to religion, why would anyone put all that kind of thinking aside in favor of faith? Faith is believing in things without evidence. Even if the evidence is to the contrary they believe it anyway! Faith is illogical!

I thought the Sheriff made a good point. We need to reconcile deporting criminal undocumented aliens with the need for community policing. That's a good question and I think Sam Harris answered adequately. There is a big part of religions that make some moral sense, (do unto others... ), that people get pulled into the whole mythology. The structure of logic
dare2dream comments on Jun 4, 2018:

I agree with much of what you said as I am agnostic as well as atheist. As Rachel said so well, skepticism is my default position until there is a preponderance of evidence for something. This open mindedness is lacking in theists. If an atheist is open to hearing evidence they cannot be absolutist. Being evidence based instead of faith based is a step toward enlightenment.

dare2dream comments on May 25, 2018:
Buddhism teaches us that suffering is caused by attachment and to end suffering we must detach (let go). Is your grieving preventing you from having a new life? Is grieving preventing you from finding happiness again? From loving again? We all grieve differently and let go and moving on differently. But for me, the sooner the better! I wanted to get past that painful phase as soon as possible!
Pretty compelling testimony today at the Judicial committee that Trump should NOT be impeached.
dare2dream comments on Dec 4, 2019:
Turley was scholarly and impressive but his testimony was basically a deflection. Just because Trump took an issue to the courts (a delaying tactic) does not mean Congress cannot proceed with their investigation or impeachment. Both the courts and Congress have the power to have trials.

Afterlife
dare2dream comments on Dec 17, 2019:
You are troubled by “Pascal's wager”. Pascal's wager posits that humans bet with their lives that God either exists or does not. Pascal argues that a rational person should live as though God exists and seek to believe in God. If God does not actually exist, such a person will have only a finite loss (some pleasures, luxury, etc.), whereas he stands to receive infinite gains (as represented by eternity in Heaven) and avoid infinite losses (eternity in Hell). The argument against Pascal's wager is it is a preposterous assumption and is no proof of god’s existence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_wager
