Atheists do what both partners agree on in bed, not what scriptures allow or what they are told in the church or how they are otherwise brainwashed. That is the power of free thinking.
dermot235 replies on Jun 11, 2020:
@St-Sinner I think that religions impose rules and regulations on Sex and what is and is not appropriate or moral or immoral. And that's always been the case. My view is there should be no rules other than age of consent and general rules of consent. It is NOBODIES business what consenting adults should do or should not do in the bedroom. If you are not harming anyone then what ever lights your candle, go do it. And enjoy it and don't feel guilt or have any feeling that what you are doing is a sin or immoral. Once you are not cheating on anyone and not harming anyone then go for it. For me it's a relationship between me and my Wife. But if you want to Swing, Have group sex, Fetish sex, Sex before marriage, be a Porn star, or whatever else, there is nothing immoral about that. In Ireland where I live the Catholic church gives out "Moral" advice on sexual relationships. A bunch of Celibate men tell us what's right and whats wrong. Then we have abuse of Children rampant in that church. We are told that sex is a sin. (Original Sin). Jesus had to be born through an immaculate conception. WTF. I won't be taking any moral code from religion. Religions give us a horrible picture about what sex is. Impose guilt on us. They take sometime that is joyful, intimate and fun and turn it into something sinful and immoral. So my observations about religion is that it does impose an unnecessary "Moral" code on sex. But for me it's simple. Don't cheat, respect consent, and then go do what you want and enjoy it.

@Alchemy I agree with you on this. Sometimes voting for a president in the US is about voting for the least worst candidate. I am aware that ICE raids increased under Obama. He was trying to impress republicans so he could get immigration reform. That was a big mistake and showed a lack of understanding as to what the republican agenda was on immigration. As for the 700 Billion dollar bail out for the banks. It was repaid with interest by them. But there should have been a bailout for the working man and woman too. When we were hit by the financial crisis in Ireland we banned repossessions and fore closures for 4 years. So Obama should have done a bail out for the ordinary worker as well. And he had a majority in the house and the senate for the first 2 years he was in office. And yes the Democrats have a lot of responsibility in regard to the Violence by the forces of "Law and Order" put upon the community, and that includes the mass incarceration of 3 millions people into the prison system. One which resulted in 1 in 4 black people ending up in prison at some point in their lives. And this was started By Bill Clinton. Yes Fault on both sides of the isle. It depends on how much your beliefs are a factor in your life. If a christian is a devout sunday church goer then i think no. But if they are a non practicing believer maybe, especially if you have a-lot of other things in common and a real connection
dermot235 replies on Jun 7, 2020:
Couples should discuss what boundaries they have before they get married. For example, My Wife was a believer and she went to church when we got married. But we talked about what we would tell our children, and agreed that I would not be hiding my Atheism from them. If they asked me did I believe in God, even at a young age, I would tell them I did not. We agreed on this before we got married. Now she is an Atheist. But I never tried to convert her. She came to that view by herself

Also preventing Older people from having sex with younger people is important too. A 21 year old should not be having sex with a 15 year old. Not in any universe I want to live in. Getting married is a commitment and it has value if you are starting a family. You are making a contract that you will look after your children and commit to doing that for the long term. Getting Married at 14 has no value whatsoever. And 14 year olds are not in a position to make an intelligent decision about this. I noticed you are pulling back from 14 years old in your argument. @Allamanda. Property developers and Big business get held to account a lot more in Europe I think. Just look at the fines Google have paid in Europe over the last 3 years The European Union handed Google in 2017 a record-breaking €2.42bn (2.8 billion dollars) fine for abusing its dominance of the search engine market in building its online shopping service, in a dramatic decision that had far-reaching implications for the company. By artificially and illegally promoting its own price comparison service in searches, Google denied both its consumers real choice and rival firms the ability to compete on a level playing field, European regulators said. The Silicon Valley giant was given 90 days to stop its illegal activities and explain how it will reform its ways or face fines of up to €10.6m a day, which equates to 5% of the average daily worldwide turnover of its parent company Alphabet. In 2019 Google was fined €1.5bn (1.7 billion dollars) by the EU for abusing its monopoly in online advertising, bringing the total cost of punishments imposed on the search giant by Europe to €9.3 billion dollars over two years.

I think that is probably true. And I hope it works out that way. There is no guarantee that it will. But if it does, it will be a shame that it may take decades for that to happen. California’s 39 million people get two senators in Washington, while two Senators also represent states like Wyoming (578,000 people), Vermont (626,000 people), and Alaska (737,000 people). With this type of thing going on it will become more and more difficult to take your country back. Also, the smaller the Vote the republicans can take the more Gerrymandering and voter suppression they will enforce. And the damage done to the US will be enormous during this period. Damage that includes it's reluctance to engage with the majority of voters that don't support them and damage done in how the US interacts with the rest of the world. And from my point of view I would prefer to see the US having a leadership role in the world than abdicate it and let China become the leading global superpower.

@PondartIncbendog There are some interesting assumptions being made by people here. That conservatives would survive better because they are from rural areas. I do know that conservatives are dominant in rural areas. So maybe they are better at hunting and camping out. But I don't think that's the question. Maybe I'm wrong. I just assumed that both groups went out in to the forest with equal supplies or no supplies. And I did note in your question that you did want to make this question about power structures. I think some people here are missing the point. The "Lost in the forest" is an interesting base line. We could call this a metaphor for a crisis. Like World war 2 or 911 or the financial crisis or this Pandemic. All the evidence shows that Liberals perform well when in charge during a crisis. Conservative thing strong leadership from the top is the only answer. Liberals mobilise the people and bring them together from the ground up. FDR in World war 2 is a great example. Trump is an example of someone that is incapable of doing that.
Question?
dermot235 comments on May 30, 2020:
The Liberals would act as a group and support each other. When we evolved on the African plain we survived because we are a social animal. So the Liberals would survive. The conservatives would be concerned with the rights of the individual and not the collective putting them at a disadvantage.
dermot235 replies on May 30, 2020:
I don't think how power is used is the issue. If you have a group of Liberals and a group of conservatives you don't need much control or power over them in order to rule the way you want to rule. They will agree with you without you having to take away their input into how things are run. It's when you lose support that Power corrupts people to do things against the will of the people. People on the Left and the right have done this time and time again throughout history. At this point in history it's the republicans that are abusing their power for the most part. Gerrymandering and Voter suppression are rampant now. But a group of conservatives who have 100% support to give to their leader negates the leaders desire to obtain more power in order to rule. There are exceptions of course. When you have a leader that is a malignant narcissist then the rule book can change. As we can see with Trump.
